New to Middle Eastern
Dance and don't know what to expect from classes? Here
are comments from a new student.
"I really want to express my extreme satisfaction in the classes
we've had! [Our instructor] infuses humor into everything, has made
us feel right at home, has explained everything just wonderfully,
and has helped each of us individually at each class.
"We came to The Cassandra School feeling a little intimidated
to study with the masters here in the Twin Cities area. We have
been so pleased, and we really wonder why we didn't come to you
earlier."

Melanie's Level 1 class
| CSBD In The News |
The Cassandra School was the subject of Sarah Moran's article on the front page of the Variety section of the Minneapolis Star Tribune on Monday, December 28. Sarah interviewed several students from Cassandra's Level 5 class asking why Belly Dancing is important to them. A copy of the full article is in the office, and you can find most of it online. |

Techniques and Rhythms
for Arabic and Middle Eastern Drums
$16 single class, $140 for 10 classes
THIS CLASS IS NOT MEETING AGAIN UNTIL THE FALL SESSION.
The Twin-Cities' premier percussionist Tim O'Keefe will be teaching a
class on Arabic drumming this session. Tim will focus on Arabic/Middle
Eastern drums such as doumbeck, riqq, and tar. He will pay special attention
to proper technique, tone production for each drum, and simple to complex
rhythms, along with rhythmic analysis of well-known dance pieces.
Tim has performed with many exceptional artists in Arabic, Persian, and
Kurdish music, including Simon Shaheen, Sattar, Sussan, the Georges Lammam
Ensemble, and Siwan Perwar. He has performed at the Jerash Festival in
Jordan and the International Music Festival in Bethlehem. Recently, he
recorded with Jordanian oud master Sakher Hattar for a CD to be released
soon. You probably saw him in Jawaahir's 2009 show at the Southern Theater:
Raqs Nouveau.
A limited number of drums will be available for rent for class use only.
Please contact Tim at 612-282-1917 or tokdrums@yahoo.com to reserve a
drum.
This class is open to all levels.

Review of the Winter 2009 Classes Showings
| |
"The class showing was SPECTACULAR!
Even people who were shy in class were thrilled to be performing
and had great energy during the show. Students were excited to show
what they knew. There was even one class that had only one student
performing, but she went on accompanied by her teacher and did a
great job!
The students who watched the upper levels perform were excited and
inspired to see what else they could learn. The audience clapped
along and supported the performers with great energy, and students
were thrilled to see their teachers dance."
